Head Cross Country/Distance Coach in Track & Field at Churchill HS since 2007.
Coached 2008 boys 800m State Champion Russell Drummond.

Washington 3A State XC Champion (state meet course record)
3200m State Champion (statemeet record)
2-time HS XC All-American
Point Scorer for 1984 NCAA Track & Field Championship Team
All American XC and Track at Oregon
1987 World University Games Silver Medalist 5000m
2-Time Olympic Trials Qualifier at 1500 and 5000.
Holds Personal Best of 3:57 in the Mile.
2010 U.S. Masters National Champion in 5000 and 800.

Why Mike continues to return to Steens Mountain Running Camp each summer:
The environment is spectacular, I like to see kids encounter challenges they would never see at home, a big part of the Steens staff is my family.

It’s a running camp that focuses a lot on the mental aspect of running. The reason I come back is that I like to see kids come out of Steen’s at the end of the week as a changed athlete with the attitude that there is no physical or mental challenge they can’t overcome.
