Remember those awesome illustrations you saw at camp? They were done by former Nike shoe designer John Hlavacs. You can purchase prints of the illustrations in many different sizes on his website: Lightspeedsoliders.smugmug.com

“Whether you’re on the road or hitting the trails, Nike Zoom Wildhorse 2 offers responsiveness and multidirectional traction to help you push up hills and stabilize on the downhill.”
Looks like the Wildhorse’s will be running the canyons of the Steens this summer.
Slated to be released Fall 2014, campers and staff will get to test these shoes out in the harsh and wild Steens mountains.

Campers from 2013 hike on the perimeter of Wildhorse Lake, the inspiration for the Zoom Wildhorse trail shoe.

The Yreka Miner boys cross country team won two state titles in the last three years, their win in 2011 being the first in school history. On Monday they were invited to the California State Capital to be honored for their accomplishment.
Way to go Miners! See you again this summer.
It’s always a pleasure to hear how Steens has affected campers in a positive way. Sienna and Ruby, from Boise High, were campers Session 2, 2012 and wrote a beautiful song influenced by their experience at camp.
They and their band, Calico the Band, have released this song as well as two others as an EP. Check it out and show them some support. You can purchase the entire EP or just the song “Steens”.

Sienna and Ruby in Tent 9 – Session 2, 2012

“Running isn’t a sport for the pretty boys…Its about about the sweat in your hair and the blisters on your feet. Its about the frozen spit on your chin and the nausea in your gut. Its about throbbing calves and cramps at midnight that can wake the dead. Its about getting out the door and running when the rest of the world is only dreaming about having the passion that you need to live each and every day with. Its about being on a lonely road and running like a champion even when theres not a single soul in sight to cheer you on. Running is all about having the desire to train and persevere until every fiber in your legs, mind, and heart is turned to steel. And when you’ve finally forged hard enough, you will have become the best runner you can be. And thats all you can ask for.”
—Paul Maurer
Easy Day Pace = no slower than a minute and a half of 5k race pace.
“That’s what distance running is, you’re always tired, but you still hit the key workouts…”
“…It’s hard training, you’re supposed to be tired; as long as you hit the hard workouts and are progressing, how you feel on the easy days, it doesn’t matter.”
“Hard training gets ya dead”
“You can’t be overtraining if you are improving on your hard workouts.”
