Ironman Race Report
Ironman Maple Valley 70.3 race report from Jeni and Will (part of our medical team)
Some wind, some rain (at times pouring!) Definetly not a 60 degree flat course! Lake Wilderness for the swim, then a scenic and hilly bike course through the Green River gorge and the community of Maple Valley, finishing with a relatively flat run on local paths, finishing back at the lake.
1.2 mi swim, 56 mi bike, 13.1 mi run
Jeni – 6:27.56
Will – 8:11.36 (29 minute PR after fixing 2 flat tires during bike)
We were both grateful to be back to racing, and happy with our days and finishes. Throughout the day HY/Steens mantra resonated with both of is- ‘give baloons’ encouraging others really does help get you through the rough parts. Thank you 🤗

Goodbye Annoying Rocks
After 2020 camp sessions staff members, Max King and Jackson Brill, took a trip back up to the mountain to explore the Steens backcountry for new and exciting training routes.
While up there they worked on upper body stamina by “MaxJacksHammering” the road boulders coming down the road into camp.

Andrea Outstanding Harney County
Andrea Letham was recently named as Harney County’s Woman of the Year. The award was given to Andrea by the Harney County Chamber of Commerce. Congrats to the former State Championship XC Coach and many time Steens KP Wrangler! Way to Go Andrea! Your Steens Family is very proud of you and your accomplishments!

Julian wins award
Julian Heninger received the Bowerman Track Club elite male runner of the year award and recently qualified for the Olympic Trials in his first marathon!
Julian has been a Steens camper, tent assistant, and last year a coach.

Staff Member Tye Van Schoiack at the World Track and Field Championships
Steens “5, 6, and 7th man” – Tye Van Schoiack – is at the World Track and Field Championships in Doha Qatar.
He is working for Nike Global Track and Field as a Massage Therapist for any and all Nike Athletes.
The world championship ends on Oct 6.
