In a deep fielded race, former camper and current staff member, Max King, placed 3rd in the 42KM race among the Alps. Max ran the race in 3:50:49.
Former Steens Camper and current Steens Counselor David Ribich raced in Saturday’s finals of the mens 1500 in the USATF Championships in Sacramento. He qualified with a 3:40.95 in Thursdays semifinals and finished 9th in the finals with a time of 3:45.44.
Steens Mt. Running Campers to receive complimentary pair of Nike Air Zoom Kiger 4’s.
Session One and Session Two Steens Campers will be fitted with a brand new pair of Nike Trail Shoes upon arrival to Camp on July 16 and July 23.
The Nike trail series running shoes, (Kiger and Wildhorse) are named after the Kiger Gorge and Wildhorse Lake, both found on the Steens Mountain.
A reminder to confirmed registered campers: if you haven’t sent your Nike Shoe Size to us, please do so by May 22th. Please refer to the email you were sent to order your shoes. Remember these Nike Air Zoom Kiger 4 Shoes will be given to you at Camp.

The Oregon women won cross country Nationals with the help of former Sheldon HS and Steens Camper Maggie Schmaedick. She was Oregon’s 5th girl, beating Michigan’s fifth girl right at the finish. Her finish allowed Oregon to beat Michigan by one point!
Homer Boys and Girls take the XC small state crowns in Alaska. Nice work guys!
Camp Director, “Futon” Ron Smith, and his wife Carma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows on Thursday during session 1.
Ron and Carma met in the 7th grade, married each other at 19 before Ron shipped off to serve in Vietnam, and have spent many of their anniversaries on the mountain.
Congratulations Ron and Carma – you’re an inspiration to us all!
